I’ll be at the airport tonight in Albuquerque, meeting my 90-pound sweetie when she comes off the plane. Posting today will be non-existent, as I have to clean the bathroom, among other things. You know how girls are about porcelain. And now it’s off to the grocery store and the bank, where I have to take out a loan to fill the gas tank for the five-hour round trip.
There won’t be a garden to greet her in the morning, though. The grasshoppers have eaten all the flowers and vegetables I planted. Would you believe a whole green pepper disappeared in a single morning? All my squash plants, tomatoes, peppers, and lettuce are eaten down to the stump. I set the big jade plant outside on the “patio” (cleared dirt space), and the bastards are chewing on that too, so in it comes. They eat all the petals off the flowers, then work on the leaves. They’re even going after geraniums, which I thought they didn’t like.
Wherever you walk outside, clouds of grasshoppers precede you on your path. I might feel better if they cheered.
