Yep, that’s what my Aunt Mary wailed when I told her back in ’98 that we were moving to New Mexico. It’s hard to say whether she was truly feeling sorry for me or just afraid there wouldn’t be anyone to hang out with when she came down from Maine to visit us in Maryland.

“Wasteland” is in the eye of the beholder, like everything else. But when I’m in a place with no highways, houses, or ugly footprints of civilization, I feel enriched, not deprived. I guess if you need an Office Depot or something, you’re out of luck. Oh well.

With an aversion for playing “business” I can do w/o the Office Depot. But a Taco Bell serving genuine Mexican fare would be nice.
We actually have one of those.
Yes, John….I wonder if it’s the one I photographed in front of the sacred mountain. The arch on top of the Taco Bell echoed the curve of the mountain nicely, although from my angle the former dominated the latter. (Only temporarily, I’m sure.)
Burger King-McDonals-Home Depot-Staples- Now THAT’S a Wasteland. It amazes me how this place becomes a bit more beautiful each and every morning.
“a Taco Bell serving genuine Mexican fare”
You’re kidding, right?
Yes Robbo, you can relax. I have a penchant for irony and good metaphors. Although, I’m not sure how to employ either, obviously.
