How to take it all in? We’re responsible for the deaths of almost 700,000 Iraqi civilians, yet there is still great beauty in the world. Here in our little corner of it, I picked some apples and brought them into the kitchen.

The leaves are from wild cherry trees down by the acequia. If you’re an apple freak, you can check out this FotoFeed for a close-up. Most of these have peck-holes from hungry magpies and other birds, but I can still make a pie. I’ll bet the flowers bloomed outside Buchenwald, too. What a way to run a universe.
