I cannot believe Chris Matthews has never been the subject of an on-the-air intervention. And that’s the least of it. It’s been years since I sat through crap like MSNBC and CNN, and frankly, the shallowness and inability of virtually all newspeople, commentators, and incumbent politicos to reason beyond their prejudices is simply staggering.
That said, what a great night. No, I don’t expect the Democrats to save us, especially now that the leaders have unofficially declared their own liberals and the netroots the New Commies. But that lady from Missouri sounded like she’ll make a great new senator, and South Dakotans showed once and for all that banning abortion is an extremist position. Who knew there was that much good sense left in the land of the formerly free.
Now can we have our Constitution back, por favor, and put the executive branch in the dock at the Hague? Bush should be stripped naked and forced to run through France, at the very least. In the meantime, I get to not watch teevee news for another two years.
And a big “whew” for that, lemme tell ya.

I’m pleased that you were able to wend your way to the polls with an open heart. I have been making a tiny living out of our own democratic process here in Canada.
In the past year I have been an election official at a Provincial by-election, a Federal General election, and just a week or so ago, a City of Winnipeg election.
Like you, I get a kick at just seeing the folks coming calmly and patiently to do their bit. I have my own preferences but do my best to ignore them and concentrate on the positive aspect of conducting things fairly for all.
Ironically, in just about all of these elections what I would consider non-progressive interests won! But I can attest that it was fair.
In light of what has happened overnight, I offer my congratulations. A report I just saw said that the most important voting issue for Americans was “corruption” ….with the War being forth!
I can’t comment on your attitude about whether Dems are just more of the same …certainly they seemed to be “meek” in the pursuit of some of the George agenda …seen from afar (although, we are awash in all of your media).
We are frustrated here when we only have about 5-6 parties.
Two is far too few to represent such a diverse country as your own. Our beef is that the majority of Canadians often vote against the winning party …but first past the post wins it all! Many of us want a representative Parliament which shows the interests of all Canadians.
Anyway, put your back into keeping them honest.
Enjoy the day!
And just how weird was Chris?
Hey, thanks for all that! I know so little of Canada, but I’m glad you’re there.
As for Chris Matthews, when a person in the public eye has so little self-awareness, it’s painful to watch. What I can’t believe is how much a prisoner of his own emotions he is. Basically, he’s all Chris, 24-7. He commented on losing Republicans by noting which ones were friends of his and how sad that they lost. This is supposed to be a newsman, you understand. There might be something else to say about a losing Republican that relates to the forces shaping election as a whole, or something specific about that race. He repeatedly interrupted members of his own team, just when they were about to conclude their points. And he filled the air with his own harebrained “what the Democrats/Republicans should do” schemes. I thought I would go mad from the irrelevance of it all.
