HOLY CRAP! From my faithful correspondent at the Coalition for the Valle Vidal:

Late yesterday, December 12, 2006, President George W. Bush signed into law the Valle Vidal Protection Act of 2005, written and sponsored by New Mexico Congressman Tom Udall. The signing of the legislation represents one of the great conservation victories in New Mexico history.

Kudos to all who made this possible, and a singular thank you to Our Lady of Guadalupe upon whose feast day this historic event falls.

He’s not wrong about Our Lady of Guadalupe, either. This never would have happened without divine intervention (and a lot of hard work). The Valle Vidal is a true natural shrine, unlike any place most of you have ever seen. Just for thinking they could drill for methane there, El Paso Natural Gas should be stuffed in a leaky boat and abandoned at sea. The very idea…

Congrats, John. I have driven near/through Kit Carson. I will remember that spectacular day forever.
