Taos Pueblo Christmas Eve

It’s that time again!

On Friday night we attended a mind-blowing Robert Mirabal concert at the Taos Center for the Arts, and tonight it’s Christmas Eve at the Pueblo. Believe me, folks, this is something powerful and unique. Does your Christmas Eve include Native warriors firing rifles and a religious procession threading its way through a throng of a thousand people, the whole scene illuminated by huge roaring bonfires? You also have to stand around for a couple of hours in zero-degree cold and may never find your car again, but hey, this is northern New Mexico.

But you don’t have to freeze: you can attend vicariously through the magic of the absolutely free recording below, captured live on the scene with binaural microphones positioned at ear level to capture ambient sound as realistically as possible. Headphones STRONGLY RECOMMENDED for maximum effect!

"Christmas at Taos Pueblo," 12-26-2004, Taos Pueblo, Taos, NM: 15 minutes of gunfire, singing, and matachines dancers. There’s nothing like it in the world. MP3, 13.70MB. •DOWNLOAD•

Bet the Robert Mirabal gig was outstanding! Truly envious here! Even a Freezing night at the Pueblo sounds marvelous! Enjoy for all of us who can’t be there! Steve
