Alternate Reality

in Earth, New Mexico, Personal, Taos

I had to go to a friend’s house for a photo shoot to get some pictures for a Web site on such a beautiful day, I could hardly believe it.

The illusion is looking mighty fine

To make things even better, the most direct route is a mile and a half of roads like this, and I got to drive there in my ’87 Ford truck with the window rolled down. Most of the road isn’t this straight at all, and I’m only on a paved road for about a block, mid-way. The section coming down from where we live is like a drier stetch of West Virginia. It was 40 degrees and felt like shirt-sleeve weather in the sun.

The photo shoot was simple, relaxed, and fun. (I’ll also have audio for you soon.) Everybody went out for Mexican food afterwards. I mean real Mexican food, like from Mexico. The meat in my half-order of beef tacos came in chunks, covered with cilantro and a little grated white cheese, loosely wrapped in several soft (not toasted) corn tortillas. The weather was still stupefyingly fine when we came out. I drove home the same way and took the shot you see here. Didn’t have to build a fire when I came home.

I suppose I ought to tell you that I spent the entire morning attacking swarms of box elder bugs at my wife’s studio. There were millions of them on the outside walls and several thousand on the inside. I poured boiling water on them and beat them with a broom. I even plugged a canister vacuum into an outside socket and sucked them up as best I could.

More of this, please.

I am also fighting the Box Elder bugs at my office…apparently (according to the Entomologist at the University) they like the leaves piled up outside the wall near the window…they over winter there then hatch out and want to get inside….pain in the ass to get rid of. Supposedly one needs to clean the leaves spray the walls and trees (box elder of course if you even have those, but seems they like Oaks and Maples and Magnolias as well) not sure you have any of those in Taos, but fyi….I keep finding the little bastards inside my printer, and every other place imaginable….I think the weather and view you posted could almost make their nuisance ass worthwhile though!! ENJOY….the promise of Spring is closer than we think perhaps !! ?? Steve
