Okay, I’m into this.
Haven’t learned anything “official” and won’t bother for a while. The open G it’s tuned to is murderously cool and gruesome, and I’m not tired of it yet. When I capo it up, I get another instrument that sounds just as good, so all I’ve been doing is my usual: invent stuff on the spot and play it over and over again. Only tonight (just now) I played for three straight hours.
The resonator top adds volume, sustain, reverb, and a bucketful of overtones to the acoustic whomp from the deep wooden body. The intonation seems just right: the highest notes ring like bells, the low ones scare the preacher. And if you take a good stiff flatpick and really dig in, the sucker flat-out roars. When an instrument sounds this good, it actually produces its own energy. You feed on the energy, play deeper, harder. That makes more energy, and so on, and on it goes until you burn out, but you’re still buzzed afterwards. Proud, too. It’s like having sex with sound. (“Hey, did I just go three hours? Cool!”) Intoxicating as hell, the stuff that drives one mad.
Thank God for music. I gotta do something, that’s for sure. Just saw candid photos of me taken at ZoukFest. Who is that wreck of an ugly old dude? I’ll tell you what this means: it’s time to do the silver fox trip RIGHT.
More nailing! More music! And on with the show.

Hope you are happy with your new toy!
A tiny bit more about your weeds… My wife thinks #2 is a member of the pea family and THINKS #3 may be a variety of bush clover, but there’s not really enough of the plant visible to tell on either one.
I’m sure a local could tell you in a heartbeat. The guy who runs Taos Herbal does “nature walks” and teaches you about the native plants and their uses (or he used to.) I bet he could tell you without any trouble.
Good luck with the zouk!
