Almost a month now, and I’m still not visiting political blogs.
Speaking as a (former?) news junkie, that’s pretty amazing. Maybe this is really dropping out, eh? But let me tell you, it makes a difference. I do scan the headlines at several sites but rarely read the stories. As near as I can tell, things have gotten worse anyway. What I mean is, I didn’t follow the ins and outs the way I used to do, and still everything went to hell (so to speak). Whether I invested emotional energy and time on them or not! I’ll take that as a sign that I’ve been right all along and just move on.
I figure I recovered at least 15-20 hours a week, by the way. And what I’m doing with this resource is investing it in creative work. A look around the new JHFARR.COM environs will show you what I’ve been up to. This blog, for instance, is based on an utterly different underlying platform from the rest of the site pages, but I hacked WordPress and Binary Blue till BBEdit bled and got it looking like it’s supposed to, hah! There’s lots more tweaking to come, but I’m already pretty proud of myself.
The feeds are all directed through FeedBurner now, so I can follow my subscribers. There won’t be many outside links posted, but what I do put up should be good for a nice kick in the head. As you might have guessed, I’m working with a brand new database. I have the old one, and I’ll run a bastardized version of the old blog locally on my MacBook to cull the old material for ebooks and submissions.
Hmm, anything else? Yes, the while column looks awfully narrow now, surrounded by the black. But it’s the same width it always was! Isn’t that amazing? I wanted fewer distractions this time. Like I told a friend, I want the content stuck in there like an ax in a watermelon.
The emphasis is on the nuts & bolts, the theme is transformation. More soon.

Woah! I just scrolled over the heart with wings… Woah!!!
I kinda like the little milagro (winged heart) picture. The one you’re noticing is just me with a leather aviator’s helmet taken with the MacBook camera and massaged with a little Photoshop. The javascript is built into the content structure of the WordPress “loop” as well as the header.php file, so all I have to do to have a different images appear in either initial or flipped position is simply unload new photos with the same names.
A work in progress, but a leaner, meaner machine. Onward!
