Since I pulled off the Great Web Site Makeover and folded the blog inside, I’ve noticed more subscribers to the feed. Overall traffic is way down, but I expected that. If you’re new to these environs, however, or even if you’re not, this is what’s been going on, blog-wise:
1. Yes, over an entire year’s worth of FarrFeed posts are now offline. Starting over from scratch here. This is personally therapeutic — professionally, maybe not so much so, but we shall see. I’m presently sifting through the old database to select essays for ebooks and print publication. As a writer, the blog has always been problematic for me. I love the immediacy of it, but blogging bleeds off energy for the “nuts and bolts.” You know, something like, “Hey, I published it! I’m hot stuff.” Only nothing’s coming in…
2. The underpinning of the new blog is the Binary Blue WordPress theme by Carsten Albrecht. It’s highly advanced and offers more possibilities for online publishing than the default theme I’d hacked up earlier. The new format is also podcast-friendly, in case I ever get off my ass and put one out. Starting over allows me to get more out of the medium.
3. Also a happy result of starting over, all the syndication feeds now go through FeedBurner. That’s why there’s only one “Subscribe” button in the sidebar: RSS, Atom, whatever, it all goes through FeedBurner and can be read in any browsers or newsreader, plus I get to see some decent stats. All for free, too.
There’s a lot more here than meets the eye, then. And what you see ISN’T all you get, because I’ve written thousands more posts over the years. Hell, some of them were brilliant. Stick around, and let’s see what happens next.
