Oh, I’ll fix it. Haven’t yet, though.

See the rather large gap at the bottom of the screen door? I’ve been here for several years, and I’ve always left the door like that. Since my honey moved in, we sometimes lay a rolled up rag rug in the opening during warmer weather, but usually only at night.

They’ve found it!

Well, the other evening — there was still plenty of light — I was sitting peacefully at my desk like I am now when my wife yelled out from the saloon, “there’s a SKUNK in here!!!” And sure enough, there was: a cute little bugger about the size of a guinea pig, only with a bigger tail. He or she walzed right out of the room where my Iowa girl had her legs pulled on the sofa, trotted all the way across the living room to sniff at my feet, then went quickly up the steps to the door and squeezed out the way it had undoubtedly come in, leaving a lingering scent in the air.

Today I came back from the bathroom to find a squirrel running frantically back and forth on the windowsill by my desk. At first I thought the animal was on the outside of the glass and wondered why it didn’t just jump down to the ground, but then I realized it was inside. This was less than desirable. I went over to the window, held the blanket curtain back to give the frightened animal more room, and we locked eyes for several seconds. Then it hit the floor and made a beeline for that screen door gap.

Interesting…

My sister-in-law is coming to visit in a couple of weeks. I wonder if my wife ever told her about the centipede in her slipper?

I keep being amazed at the tiny gaps Carolina Wrens will crawl through in order to get into our “sun porch” so they can build a nest in one of my wife’s delicate plants. A neighbor once had a wren build a nest in an old “gimme” cap that had hung on a nail too long.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to snag a copy of that wonderful pic at the top of your blog page, but it changes to the photo when I mouse over it. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
John

Regarding the photo — I assume you mean the sunset thundercloud formation — one could decipher the source code, read the javascript, and figure out the location of the image on the server… but here it is: http://www.jhfarr.com/farrfeed/wp-content/uploads/ffheader1.jpg. Paste that into your browser’s title bar and you’ll go right to it, where you can snag it easily. But only until I change it, which will be soon.

Instead, I recommend keeping an eye on FotoFeed. A much larger version of that shot will be the featured daily image soon, possibly tomorrow or Saturday.

Great! Thats a fantastic (almost literally) picture. One of those sets of colors that folks who’ve not been to NM would not believe.

Thanks!

I love it, a skunk. Every morning on my drive to work I can’t but smell the skunk everywhere. It is such a unique scent and one I had to become accostumed to after I moved to New Mexico. Honestly, I couldn’t think of one other place I’d been that carries the distinct odor of skunk in the early morning light.

I’m glad the tiny little guy didn’t leave in of his own brand of perfume behind.
