You have to forgive me, I need to do this once in a while. The image of Taos Mountain below is from today. About ten minutes ago, in fact:

The Mountain

Is that a hoot or what? It just sits there, outside my front door, always here but always different. A dear friend told me once that I couldn’t live on scenery. SHE WAS WRONG! Well, sort of… Okay, we must have blown over $100K just surviving, and I’m still in debt besides. But I only owe dollars, and that’s like owing feathers… The point is, we did it. We freaking did it, and now I’ve been here eight and half years. If I crash and burn tomorrow, I’ll do it here with the mountain and everything else, just like Sherlock.

Sherlock?

Oh yes, the dead landlord’s cat, 13 years old. Sherlock has been living with our neighbors, who reported that he died this morning. One minute he seemed perfectly normal, caught a bird and brought it into the living room, and the next minute he was gone: just twitched once and fell over, boom. What a way to go! I think that’s really thrilling. If we could all die that way, think of how sweet and simple it would be.

Just like Bing Crosby walking off the golf course, boom. I love it.
