Talk about your synchronicity!
Tonight we went out to dinner at the home of a longtime Taos resident up in Des Montes. That’s higher up toward the mountains, with actual grass and trees instead of only sagebrush, and we had a delightful time. I haven’t been attracted to that area for predictable psycho-cultural reasons: too many rich Anglo transplants, bad for the environment, etc. But our hostess had been there for decades, and she was something else, brothers and sisters. There was even a bartender who brought me tequila and limes. At some point before the sun set, I went outside. Hmm. After I walked around the house, looked at the mountain, saw the nice dirt, and passed by an orange Kubota tractor with a big-ass mower blade, I thought: well hell, a man could get used to this.
Me, sell out, you say? Leave my magical, mud-bogged neighborhood of proud Hispanos and ancient hippie scum?? Um, well… But it’s nice up that way. The mountain is right there, and the western horizon must be 100 miles away. A far piece, anyhow. Let’s just say I saw things in a different light for once and felt a little lighter.
When we got home, I opened my computer and found the following:
Contemporary, custom-built Santa Fe-styled passive solar adobe with vaulted ceiling, open design, 2 BR/1bth, full greenhouse with large plants, radiant floor heat/natural gas, spacious home w/extensive grounds with trees on black loamy riverbed bottom soil for the nature-lover or gardener in you. 13 mi. from Taos Ski Valley…; 6 mi. to city limits, 4 mi. to local airport. This house & property sits adjacent to a 17 acre horse pasture & is in a very private/serene neighborhood with excellent neighbors.
Egad, has something shifted?! I could have written the damn ad myself. All that, and bears in the apple trees. Not far from where we were tonight, either. (I have of course responded, so we shall see.) And while I was reading the above, I received an email with a lead on another passive solar house for rent on two acres at the edge of town. Both of these are in our price range, too. Is that legal? Think good thoughts, and save some for yourselves.
Maybe we should go out to dinner in Des Montes more often. Stay tuned.

John,
Thinking the best of thoughts and wishes for you two! We need those kind of places to feed our souls … something I KNOW you know about!
Keep us posted,
Dennis
Sweet! Go for it!
No reason you can’t have what you want – you put the thought out there, and there it is.
Lately whenever I think of something I want it shows up.
Well, except the pony. Stoopid pony.
