Where We Were Today

in New Mexico, Taos

This is just a small piece of the view from halfway to where we went for lunch in Peñasco today. If you ever get up that way, be sure to visit the Sugar Nymph Bistro. The food is usually outstanding, and if you’re in the mood, you can take trapeze lessons from the folks at Wise Fool Productions, located in the same building.

Lunch was fine, BTW. More than fine, actually. The only problem was that I can’t eat anything crunchy for another 10 days or so, and I thought I was being clever by ordering a big piece of carrot cake for dessert. Nice and soft, right? Well, sure. In an ordinary restaurant with ordinary carrot cake. But this place is special, and so was the carrot cake, chock-full of large walnut chunks, which were also embedded deeply in the thick cream cheese frosting. It took me about 30 minutes to dissect and eat the thing, but it was good. I felt like I was seeing the future, though. The eventual future, with some toothless old bastard gumming baby food. (Please God, smite me first.)
