El Blizzard? [Updated]

in New Mexico

Wow, we just had one of a sort. About a 30-minute whiteout, I’d say, and it was pretty scary. The weather just looks mean today, so it’s hard not to feel abused. “It’s just December in the southern Rockies,” I said to my wife. (Hey, at least it’s southern.)

The weather report calls for high winds and eight inches. The winter storm warning is in effect until 5:00 p.m. MST. Despite that last blast, there hasn’t been any appreciable new snowfall yet, and the temperature only now dropped under 32 degrees. If the weather people are correct, the next three hours are going to be exciting. Any minute now the phone will ring. It will be my wife calling for me to come pick her up at her studio.

(The only reason she hasn’t is just below…)

UPDATE: Hahaha, nothing happened except the ongoing 40 knot gale under clear blue skies. Maybe it’s not even 40 knots, but that sounds cool. We dodged a bullet, olé! Meanwhile, here’s a high-zoot art shot of our neighbor’s chimney taken through our kitchen window. Hah!

Winter has arrived

We got about 2 feet here in Telluride yesterday and more is on the way over the weekend. Makes my commute home more and more interesting every day. Whoopee?

Whoopee indeed. It doesn’t usually snow that much at one time here, but it certainly has before. When that much snow melts, ye gods… nothing but dirt roads here, remember … ohhhhhhhhhh…
