What’s Happening…

Believe it or not, I’ve been quite busy working on the new FarrFeed. With any luck at all, we should all be looking at the new site very shortly. I’m using the Thesis premium WordPress theme.

What’s so great about Thesis is the back end. The digital guts, the basic framework. This thing is SEO’d out the gazoot and raises customization to a whole new level by allowing one to insert custom HTML without touching the core code. This means that updates never require re-editing PHP files, but I do have to learn a thing or two about PHP programming, which is the main thing taking so much time. Not that it’s hard at all — it isn’t, as we’re mainly only talking about one custom file, as well as a custom stylesheet. However, the options are many, and I’m taking my time experimenting.

As I’ve mentioned before, the new FarrFeed will be more than just a blog. I plan to gradually make available (read: give away!) just about everything I’ve ever written. There will be more posts, in other words, maybe a bunch more. I’ll have more room in the layout for videos, photos, audio, and eventually, ads. I’m also planning to merge the previous FarrFeed database with the current one and include stories that haven’t been accessible for a while. But the old FarrFeed design, the one you’re looking at now, will be history.

By the time I’m done, FotoFeed will also be revamped using WordPress and Thesis. The daily photos will still be there, at the same size, but people will be able to comment, and I’ll have new options for webmasters who want to post a thumbnail FotoFeed link to their own sites.

Fun stuff, but time-consuming to set up. Onward!
