On the hand tool thing, I was in Bali this winter and hand tools are all that they use - all men carry a hand scythe or a machete or both with them at all times and a whetstone. Never know when the jungle will encroach on your path. Earth movers don't exist, they move earth (including boulders the size of a beachball) with shovels and baskets on their heads. And they smile doing it. There is something to be said for smiling. The art of a graceful apology from the heart will always serve life well.
