Silver Lining Dept.

This is for anyone appalled by my letting it all hang out vis-a-vis my family: know ye that the kids are all right, so to speak.

My brother, for example, ended his last phone call to me the way he always does, by saying “I love you.” How many of you have brothers in their 50s who tell you that every chance they get? And I’m more open than I’ve ever been. My other brother and sisters are also saner than you’d expect from reading my blog posts, and now we’re closer than ever — “closeness” is a relative thing in my family, but there’s more of it now than I can remember having been the case.

There’s even a part of my mother’s psyche that’s able to communicate occasionally from a faraway place of understanding, though that is rare, so here and there, healing happens. Just so you know.

[And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming!]
