You probably need to read this piece by Matt Taibbi, but you won’t be happy afterwards. It’s entitled “The Health Care Bill Dies?,” and he doesn’t need the question mark. Here’s the last paragraph:
This whole business, it was a litmus test for whether or not we even have a functioning government. Here we had a political majority in congress and a popular president armed with oodles of political capital and backed by the overwhelming sentiment of perhaps 150 million Americans, and this government could not bring itself to offend ten thousand insurance men in order to pass a bill that addresses an urgent emergency. What’s left? Third-party politics?
Obama talked the talk but hasn’t walked the walk. This is worse than Bush-Cheney, because these guys are supposedly on our side, and so many of us believed in real change. I’m not disillusioned, I’m serious and wide awake. The people we’ve elected are neither, but the events of the last election will never be repeated. Ah, maybe that’s the silver lining!
Thank God I’m an artist! I have outlets for my anger and a transcendental streak besides. What do the masses get? Shafted, that’s what, and they can be counted on to blame the wrong persons.
Ugh.

Dear Disillusioned,
The “Chosen One” has not delivered. Nothing has changed. Just more racial strife, same stream of body bags, broken promises, higher taxes and closed governing.
I told you so.
Joseph
You’re right so far, Joseph. Yup.
