Short and charming, you’ll say about this second video in the “REAL New Mexico” series.
This is probably the quietest moment at the Taos County Farmers’ Market that I’ve ever witnessed, even though there’s music playing. There’s just something about the mood and the cultural grounding. To fully appreciate this, you have to get slowed down first — not Anglo-slow, but big-wide-world slow:
I wish I’d had my video camera with me when I stopped at Albertson’s the other day to score a gallon of milk and industrial cheese. Out in front, lined up preparing for an army of customers, were three or four guys roasting green chiles for sale. It was like the Day of the Chiles, and the familiar smoke blew all over the parking lot.
If I’d been able to put that smell into a video, we’d have had something, all right.
