Give a man a pocket video camera and see how much trouble he gets into!
For anyone who doesn’t know, acequias in this part of the country are traditional irrigation ditches maintained by the local community. The idea comes from Moorish Spain, and some of these ditches are several hundred years old. Over time, they come to look like natural streams, except that they’re usually shut down in winter. This video introduces the acequia behind our rented adobe and is the first in a series. (I also shot video yesterday by dangling the camera upside-upside down right over the water, but for that, you’ll have to wait a bit.)
There’s a close-up of me in this one, so watch out! Mainly though, this sets the scene with an almost 360-degree look at the surroundings.
