Winter Storm Warning [Updated]

Egad, I seem to be incubating a head cold. Hopefully not, but perhaps instructive, given recent events. At any rate, I’m shutting down early tonight. Might as well, because the following is forecast for tomorrow:

… Winter Storm Warning in effect from midnight tonight to 6 am
MDT Thursday…

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Winter
Storm Warning for heavy snow… which is in effect from midnight
tonight to 6 am MDT Thursday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer
in effect.

Snow is forecast to develop over the northwest mountains including
the Jemez after midnight tonight… then spread into the Sangre de
Cristo Mountains early Wednesday. By late Wednesday
night… snowfall accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are possible at
elevations above 7500 feet. Locally higher amounts up to one foot
are possible at elevations above 8500 feet.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

For the latest New Mexico Road conditions… call 1.800.432.4269.

Remember… a Winter Storm Warning means severe winter weather
conditions are imminent or highly likely.

I should also point out that most of the leaves haven’t fallen off the trees yet. They and I will be good company in the morning, as I trudge out to the woodpile in the snow to hunt for something to burn.

UPDATE: No need to bore everyone with the weather, but today wasn’t as bad as forecast. Tomorrow, BTW, they’re calling for a 70% chance of snow and a low of 11° F. Man, I am just not ready for this.

Snow day here in Colorado Springs!! Thinking of our house guests in Taos and hoping they are getting that sweet desert snow to enjoy!!

5 inches on the ground and no signs of stopping here in the San Juans. I’m glad that I only have to walk to work now and don’t have to make the 65 mile commute over the Dallas Divide and up the San Juan Skyway. My former van mates were very late this morning.

Tammi: “Sweet desert snow…” I think I will make you go stand in the corner. :-)

Mtnred: That’s probably the minimum we’ll get. Good for you that you don’t have to go so far!

The snow is instructive, however. After several brutal winters in a row, my attitude is shifting. With plenty of money and a fine house heated by the sun, a woodpile not buried in the mud, and the proper vehicles to navigate the slop, life is easy enough. On a limited budget with none of the other amentities, it’s goddamned hard in this location. I either have to get rich or get smart. Maybe I’ll do both at the same time and change my Twitter handle to MauiJohn.
