Outlook for 2010

in Personal

Somewhere in MD, a long time ago...

Everybody else is doing it, why not me?

It’s been quite a year, personally and otherwise. Most people look at statements like that and think in economic terms, but that’s not where I’m coming from. As usual, I’ve been examining my life — a very good exercise for late-blooming emotional cripples, but useful for the complacent masses as well — and pulling off more layers of the onion. I can map the invisible stream bed now and occasionally catch a glimpse of what’s outside of it. I understand why I’ve never won the lottery or had any serious health issues: my purpose in this life is to learn to deal with fear (the stream bed!) and make things happen on my own by following my heart for real. The Creator is keeping me alive until I do this thing, in other words: it won’t come to me on a golden platter descending from the sky, dammit all to hell.

I also want to do some serious good and leave the world a better place. I’d like to be remembered for the things I’ve overcome, so that someone else might get a leg up on their troubles. But mostly, I want to smile again like I did when I was very young. That, and lose at least another 30 pounds.

Toward that end, there will be many changes here. An end to the scattershot approach, for one, and more focus on the mystery that motivates us all, whether we know it or not. I hope you all keep coming back. Whatever happens, it isn’t going to be dull!
