Oh, I got dem heebie-jeebies, all right. All day, today…
The spot on the back of my hand must be cancer. My knees are a-rattlin’ inside when I walk. There’s colder weather on the way, Lord in heaven. I went out to get more sunflower seeds and found there weren’t any. I just LOVE driving to Walmart during the school bus races, but today was Martin Luther King Day, so off I went. No way in hell will I disappoint the birdies.
Traffic was heavy on the Paseo and running at a full 45 mph for once. Far ahead in the distance, I saw the flashing red and blue lights of an EMS ambulance heading in my direction and winced: if you want to cause general chaos and maybe kill someone on the side, just run an ambulance up any busy road in Taos. You’re supposed to get out of the way, I guess, and people do, with a vengeance. This time nobody stopped dead in the road — always a hoot at 45 mph — but the Lexus SUV in front of me dove for the curb! The thing was, we were in the fast lane, so the hippie in the beat-up Suburu to my right had to jam on the brakes and let the Lexus pull in front of him. I don’t think the Lexus driver ever knew he nearly creamed someone, all in the name of safety.
I’ll bet $100 he was talking on the phone, too. Earlier I’d been riding with my wife when a chickie talking on the phone shot right through a yield sign and damn near made a big mess of two good cars. There’s so much madness in the air. Maybe it comes from radiation poisoning. Talk about the heebie-jeebies, it was CLOUDY this afternoon. too. That makes everyone drive crazy, because the lack of sunlight makes them suicidal. I ought to know: try as I might, I just couldn’t get warm sitting at my desk today because of the goddamned clouds. Made me want to turn off the computer, lie down with a blanket in front of the fire, and sleep all day. (They can’t get you if you’re asleep!)
