Happy New Year! (I Think)

So you see, this really is a Happy New Year message. It’s okay to make mistakes, but just keep moving! My very own wife and God Almighty just want us to relax and spread more joy. As I’ve done precious little so far to fulfill my quota, there’s a lot to do.

Sunday in the Park

It’s a glorious day here on Ceti Alpha V: quite a few clouds, about 75 °F in the shade with a nice strong breeze. No exploding drug labs or hot rod truck tuning going on today, no car stereo thumping, just the ringing in my ears and the wind in the trees. Nobody’s bugging me [...]

Full Moon Shoe Run

Something peculiar is going on: I just spontaneously drove to Albuquerque and back (260 miles) to buy a pair of shoes! I don’t DO things like that, but what a wild end to an amazing day. It started uncharacteristically enough with my enjoying running errands in the morning. The combination of warm sun and cool [...]

My Neighbor Has Pit Bulls

There they were, little tan buggers not half grown, running up and down the dirt road with their tongues hanging out. Pit bulls! I’d just come back from my walk and found my friend J. at the mailbox. He’s a few years older than I am, lives up a nearby canyon in a home-made house. [...]

Great Holy Geyser of God

There’s no magic key or talisman to give you, but I can point. Sort of. Simply put, I feel better than I have in decades. This couldn’t have happened before now, either. (Maddening, but true.) The other night, for example, I was hanging out with a couple of gentlemen friends, and the conversation turned to [...]

Leaving the Hologram

There was a time when I had a tabbed folder of bookmarks set to open 15 political blogs at once in my browser. Hah! What an absurdity that seems now. I still have one such blog in my News folder, and I visit others now and then, of course, by following Twitter links and other [...]

Perc it Up

First I got too close to the Great Yowling. This is never a good way to start your day. I can be such a gentle, newfound peaceful soul. No, really. It comes with practice, and I have the yowling to thank for motivation. Sometimes it expands suddenly from beyond the mountains like the flash of [...]

Good Day

By most accounts, today was a fine April day. Here in Taos, the wind blew fiercely and we got up to 70° F. I opened all the doors and windows–that’s not saying much in an old adobe–and let the place air out. I’m an open windows kinda guy, anyway. At a delightful blog written by [...]

Real Things

Okay, it’s really spring, see? I even erected the patio umbrella and tidied up out back. It’s not your fancy magazine sort of outdoor living space, but it’ll do. I sat out here today until the umbrella tried to fly away and take the table with it. The forecast for Monday afternoon calls for 50 [...]

Not Half Bad (Medley)

Last night I aimed a flashlight out the kitchen window at 2:00 a.m. to see if it was snowing yet. It wasn’t, but I was surprised to see a medium-sized raccoon staring back at me from the tall platform feeder I’d made for the birds. He (?) was licking those sunflower seeds up with his tongue as fast as he could and chewing them up husks and all, as far as I could tell, having a high old time.
